Know Your Rights Event Hosted to Educate Community On Lack of Affordable Housing

SEPTEMBER 19, 2018

“Every year over 12,000 families in Hamilton County face eviction,” stated John Schrider, Director, Legal Aid Society of Southwest Ohio LLC, speaking at the Know Your Rights event. He was referencing the recent Evictions Study conducted by The Cincinnati Project and continued, “The rate of evictions in Hamilton County is way above the national average. So it’s important for tenants to know what to do if they find themselves with a predatory landlord that isn’t providing them with a safe place to live.” John ended by stating, “The city of Cincinnati needs to take bold action to address this issue. People often end up in worse shape financially if they are evicted and it becomes doubly difficult for them to find new affordable housing.”

Know Your Rights was organized by Greater Cincinnati Homeless Coalition, and co-hosted by HOME of Greater Cincinnati, and Legal Aid at the Main Branch of the Cincinnati Public Library, to educate the community about the lack of affordable housing and tenant rights.
